Warning signs of a slab leak in your Tampa home
Slab leaks are common in Tampa area homes built on concrete foundations, and catching the early signs can save you from a much larger repair.
Homes across Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, and Temple Terrace are mostly built on concrete slabs, which means the water and sewer lines run underneath the foundation instead of through a basement. When one of those lines develops a leak, you will not see a puddle on the floor right away. Instead you will notice a pattern of smaller clues that add up over a few weeks.
The most common signs are a hot spot on the floor that has no obvious cause, a sound of running water when every fixture in the house is off, and a water bill that jumps without an explanation. Some homeowners also notice a drop in water pressure at the shower or sink, cracks in the flooring or baseboards, or a damp smell in one part of the house that does not go away. Any one of these on its own might not mean much, but two or three together usually point to a slab leak.
Because the pipe is under the foundation, guessing at the location is not a good plan. A camera inspection lets a plumber see inside the line and pinpoint where the leak is before anyone starts cutting into concrete or drywall. This matters whether the original plumbing is copper, which is common in older Tampa homes, or PEX, which shows up more in newer construction and remodels. Knowing the pipe material changes how the repair gets done and what it will take to access the line.
If you are noticing warm spots on the floor or a water bill that does not match your usage, it is worth having someone look at it before the leak gets worse or affects the slab itself. Harbor Plumbing handles camera inspections and slab leak repair for homeowners throughout Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, and Temple Terrace, and offers same-day service when the schedule allows it. Catching a slab leak early is almost always less disruptive and less costly than waiting until water starts showing up where you can see it.
